Quite a line I just found from Voltaire.. the common quote is the money one.

Truly, whoever is able to make you absurd is able to make you unjust.

commonly quoted as ‘Those who can make you believe in absurdities can make you commit atrocities’

Questions sur les miracles

Loved the Warriors piece, David. It’s exactly what I thought you would write about and the joy is so infectious it permeates the screen! I am not a Dubs fan in particular, I do love beautiful basketball though (and am watching way too much league pass thanks to the pandemic) so can’t get enough healthy Steph.

Henry, I couldn’t quite tell if you were being facetious about the use of surveillance technology to charge and indict these insurrectionist criminals. While you are right, we are certainly a surveillance society and economy (yikes!), I think you know that the reason we don’t want to specifically use that surveillance as the first line of criminal charging is because that is how we will turn into a literal big brother state (or have no rights, you know). The fact that they can use it and already know who’s done what is a huge leg up for enforcement (and already questionable for our rights) and using the old-school methods of interviews and other tactics is part of the important line that keeps us from being criminally prosecuted for breaking laws in private (I work in cannabis so am keenly aware of such realities and there are many, many more examples some of which are much more important I’m sure). I can’t imagine you actually want to go down the rabbit hole of allowing surveillance to completely regulate our lives and behavior (more than it already does).
