After reading this piece (which was really good by the way) I am left with the feeling that you don't see a way out. Perhaps you could down your views on how to make the changes needed to change this league. It remains my favorite. I see the things you mentioned and recognize them as problems, but the very success of the owners seems to be the hindrance for any real change.
Put a minimum games played criteria for guaranteed contracts and that’ll fix player reliability issue (similar to awards hardware).
The gambling problem is hard to fix - the league (and sports media) laid in that bed and tough to untangle
Don’t lose sight of paying fans who keep gravy train flowing. TV revenue and corporate sponsors are huge but the NBA can’t get disconnected from individual fans.

Great idea Terry. I am not at all hopeless! My guess is that the patient
would heal in a hurry if we got the diagnosis right.
Thanks. I like the sound of that!
As always, brilliantly succinct synthesis. For those of us who love the game and hate all of this please keep up the good work.
Commissioner Stern is sorely missed.

The idea that you need a draft is crazy since, no league outside the USA has a draft. Get rid of it
