Really nice article. I wish the front office of the Mavs would read this. The Thunder have a more nationally recognized plan than the Pacers do. Your assessment of their plan and how it correlates to the Thunder's M.O. is really nice.
I really have enjoyed reading about the Thunder's front office staff in this article and some previous ones you have written. Makes me wonder why more teams don't pay attention to this model.
Perhaps the need for instant gratification coupled with incompetent owners/managers is the real reason.
So many owners and GMs distracted by shiny objects. Or so worried abut job security they abandon their long-term plan for a quick fix. It's why Kevin Durant always has a landing spot.
great article. Im often rather astounded how poorly run are NBA front offices and how lazy GMs are. How did calvin booth get a job? There is video of him bidding against himself ....in the war room. The only great front office is OKC, with spurs and celtics and heat not too far behind. Utah is trying (I think). Houston, although the KD trade was awful. Whatever limited help he provides on court is more than offset by how he poisons the culture and climate around the team. This year has been dispiriting ....starting with the Luka trade...and the OH WOW ONLY 1% chance and DALLAS GETS FLAGG.....what a coincidence. The league has a severe credibility problem and its not helped by front offices like Charlotte or sacramento or phoenix. Nor by the old boys network in placce (why did new orleans hire who they just hired? You are going to tell me there was nobody more knowledgable than joe fucking dumars for that job??). Its often depressing. Why is LeMelo Ball paid a small fortune to play crappy losing basketball. I knew the rules he breaks in junior high school. My high school coach would have sent him home after two practices. So WHY? Or for that matter a half dozen other guys paid absurd money to play poorly. Its one thing to pay Jokic or Giannis, its another to pay leMelo or trae young or zion.
Presti is a genius. But you need the right person. Troy Weaver on the Pistons was supposedly long-term thinking, but he never had a plan. Or his plan was to find as many Centers as possible so he can overpay 😂
I admire Managers who see through the smoke and maintain their vision. Presti has a great draft record overall and a OKC develops talent really well.

I look forward to your next piece!
Bravo, Henry.
